VN Translator frequently asked questions

Getting started

What is VN Translator and how does it work with Zalo Web?

VN Translator is a Chrome extension that adds real-time AI translation to Zalo Web. It translates incoming Vietnamese messages into English inside the chat window, and translates your English replies into Vietnamese before sending them. You need the extension installed in Chrome and a VN Translator account to use it. See all features.

Why do I need both the extension and an account?

The Chrome extension handles the in-browser translation display and message composition. Your VN Translator account manages your API key, usage tracking and subscription. The API key connects the two, it tells the extension which account to use for translations. This separation keeps the extension lightweight and your billing and settings manageable from the dashboard.

How do I install VN Translator and connect my API key?

1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
2. Create an account at app.vntranslator.me using your email or Google account.
3. In your dashboard, name & generate an API key.
4. Open the extension settings in Chrome and paste in your API key.
5. Go to chat.zalo.me and start chatting.

For a more detailed walkthrough, see the Features page setup section or the business translation guide.

Does VN Translator work in the Zalo mobile app?

No. VN Translator is a browser extension that works with Zalo Web at chat.zalo.me on a desktop or laptop. It does not work inside the Zalo mobile app on iOS or Android.

Does it work in the installed Zalo desktop application?

No. The installed Zalo desktop application is a separate program from Zalo Web. VN Translator works only through the browser-based Zalo Web at chat.zalo.me.

Which browsers and operating systems are supported?

VN Translator is built and tested for Google Chrome on desktop. It may work in other Chromium-based browsers such as Edge, Brave or Arc, but these have not been officially tested and are not currently supported. If you try VN Translator in another browser and encounter issues, let us know — your feedback helps us prioritise compatibility work.

Translation and controls

Can I translate Vietnamese messages into English and reply in Vietnamese?

Yes — that is the core workflow. Incoming Vietnamese messages are translated to English so you can read them, and your English replies are translated to Vietnamese before they are sent. Both directions happen inside the Zalo Web chat window. See how it works.

What other languages are supported?

English–Vietnamese is the primary supported use case and the focus of VN Translator’s development. The extension may support additional language pairs, but a confirmed list of all supported languages is not yet published. If you need a specific language pair, contact support to check availability.

Can I change the tone and how I address the recipient?

Yes. VN Translator includes controls for translation tone (such as friendly, neutral or formal) and addressing context. Vietnamese uses different pronouns and formality levels depending on who you are speaking to, and these settings help the AI produce translations that fit the relationship. They guide the translation — they are not a guarantee that every nuance will be perfect. Learn more about tone controls.

Are replies sent automatically, or can I review them first?

Untick Auti-send before translating and you can review your message before using the standard Zalo send button. If you are unsure about a message, consider composing sensitive messages carefully and keeping them concise.

Plans and usage

Is VN Translator free?

VN Translator offers a free trial with 5,000 characters of translation — no credit card required. This is enough to test it in several real conversations. After the trial, paid plans are available starting at a few dollars a month. The extension itself is free to install from the Chrome Web Store. View current pricing.

How are characters counted, and what happens when my allowance runs out?

Characters are counted both on translating into Vietnamese and back to your own language.
When your monthly allowance is exhausted you can upgrade to a higher plan or wait until your bill date for your limit to reset. Check the pricing page for the latest information or contact support with specific questions.

Do I need a separate AI-provider subscription or API key?

No. VN Translator provides its own API key through your dashboard. You do not need to sign up with a separate AI provider or obtain your own AI API key. The VN Translator API key is included with your account — it connects your Chrome extension to VN Translator’s translation service.

Privacy and help

Does VN Translator store my messages? Who processes the translation?

VN Translator does not store your chat messages on its servers. Message text is sent to an external AI provider for translation and returned to your browser. VN Translator collects account information (email, subscription status) and website analytics, but not your conversation content. Payment is handled by Stripe. For complete details, read the privacy policy.
Note: while VN Translator does not retain your messages, the external AI provider’s own data handling terms apply to text sent for translation. If this matters for your use case, review the privacy policy for further details.

Is VN Translator an official Zalo product?

No. VN Translator is an independent product developed by Mavero Digital. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Zalo or VNG Corporation. The extension works with Zalo Web through the browser and does not access Zalo’s internal systems or APIs.

What should I check if translation is not working?

Start with these basics:
Browser: Make sure you are using Google Chrome on a desktop or laptop.
Zalo Web: Confirm you are using chat.zalo.me in your browser, not the Zalo mobile or desktop app.
Extension: Check that the VN Translator extension is installed and enabled in Chrome (look for the extension icon in your toolbar, pinning it makes it easy to find).
API key: Verify that your VN Translator API key is entered in the extension settings and that it matches the key in your dashboard.
Allowance: Check your dashboard to make sure you have remaining translation characters on your plan.
If the issue persists, contact support with a description of what you see.
